Training and coaching for Sales teams in cloud and cybersecurity
Your IT team has the technical knowledge, but struggles with selling advanced cloud and cybersecurity solutions. Customers don’t see the value, the sales cycle is complex, and your team lacks the skills to present these solutions convincingly.
Training and coaching for IT teams in cloud and cybersecurity from Uphill Sales helps your team get past that. With a practical approach that produces results straight away.
The problem: why isn’t it working?
Moving into cloud and cybersecurity asks for a different way of selling. Traditional IT services revolve around technical specifications. This is about strategic value. Customers want to know how these solutions make their business secure, able to grow and ready for what comes next. That takes a different mindset and different skills. Take a look at our blog article Stop working harder! on how to make smarter use of the time you have.
Plenty of organisations struggle with:
- Not enough knowledge in the sales team about the commercial side of cloud and cybersecurity.
- Conversations that get too technical, so customers never see the value.
- A lack of confidence in their own team to sell these solutions.
- High staff turnover, caused by a lack of motivation and room to grow.
As we described in our article on Coaching sales: the best answers are already in your team, about unlocking the potential that’s already in your team.
Our solution: sales that actually delivers
At Uphill Sales we offer sales coaching for IT teams in cloud and cybersecurity that goes further than theory. We train your team in a coaching approach, so team members learn to find their own answers and advise customers convincingly.
Our approach works on 3 levels:
- Building knowledge: we make sure your team understands the value of cloud and cybersecurity for customers.
- Changing mindset: from selling products to solving customer problems.
- Sharpening skills: learning to explain complex messages simply and to build relationships that last.
With these 3 levels we help you sell cloud and cybersecurity solutions more effectively and strengthen your commercial position at the same time. Your customers start to see you as a strategic partner who helps them stay secure, grow and stay ready for what’s next. That builds revenue, and it builds the long-term relationships that lift your organisation to another level.
Building knowledge
Before your team can advise customers, they need to understand the value of cloud and cybersecurity themselves. We run internal training sessions with technical experts, customer simulations and market insight. So they learn not only what they’re selling, but above all why customers need these solutions. How a cybersecurity solution prevents a data breach, for example, or how a cloud migration lets a business grow faster.
Changing mindset
In cloud and cybersecurity, the work is about solving a problem. We help your team make that shift: from “I sell a service” to “I help this customer succeed”. With reflective questions, success stories and a focus on consultative selling. So your team learns to ask “What’s the biggest risk to your business if you do nothing?” instead of pitching a product straight away. You can read more about this in our blog article Coaching through a strategic shift.
Sharpening skills
The sales cycle in cloud and cybersecurity is usually longer and more complex. We train your team in explaining complex messages simply, turning objections around and building relationships that last. With role play, a feedback culture and conversation structures like the “3-30-3 method”: 3 seconds to pitch the core message, 30 seconds to explain the value and 3 questions to bring the customer in.
We also train your team in the qualification frameworks BANT, MEDDIC and MEDDPICC, so they learn to judge which approach fits which level of deal complexity, from a short BANT conversation to a full MEDDPICC analysis on an enterprise deal with a formal procurement process. A coached deal: from a stuck forecast to a better solution
In 2024 I worked for CounterCraft on behalf of Uphill Sales. Account manager Elena had been in touch with a large prospect for months. Everything ran through Teams and email. The deal sat at 70% in the CRM and the close date had shifted twice. There wasn’t a single sign of dissatisfaction.
In a progress review I asked her one question: had she ever picked up the phone and called that customer, just a conversation with no agenda?
She called. 5 minutes later she knew what was really going on. The blocker was the implementation timeline: another internal project was running that rubbed up against ours. Price never came into it.
The solution
After that we rebuilt the whole thing. Together with the customer we worked out how our planning fitted into theirs. Part of our functionality turned out to be duplicated, because that other project already covered it. We took it out of the proposal. Then we sat down with the customer and the supplier of that other project. What came out was a solution better than what the 2 projects would have delivered separately.
The deal signed the following quarter. €150,000 for the first year. Total investment in technology went down and consultancy came back in its place, at a higher margin. The deal value stayed the same and the customer got more.
What happened afterwards matters more than that one deal. Elena picked up the phone faster, to ask the next question and hear where a customer really stood. Sometimes that led to disqualifying a deal, sometimes to information she could use to help the customer further. In sales meetings she started raising it with colleagues herself, always with the same question: have you ever called that customer?
The full story behind that phone call is in the article What you don’t hear doesn’t exist.
What you get out of it
This is what it means for you:
- Early qualification of promising projects at the front of the sales process, so time goes where it counts.
- Faster closing, through a targeted, customer-led approach.
- Higher conversion rates, because your team can explain the value of cloud and cybersecurity convincingly.
- Customer relationships that last, through a focus on long-term solutions rather than one-off sales.
- A motivated sales team that sells these solutions independently and with confidence.
